Using a Class Blog for Reading Response

In the past, I used this space as a way to showcase student work. Recently, instagram has been a more efficient way for me to to this, so until I started grad school, this site sat unused for a while.

But, this morning, my librarian shared this post on facebook: Ten Ways to Ditch that Reading Log. While I definitely “ditched” the reading log in my classroom years ago, this post got me thinking about other ways to use a blog format in my classroom. I wonder if my third graders might engage in meaningful conversations through the comment sections of a class blog. It feels like a natural format for thoughtful reading responses that would work well for whole group and small group discussions. Hmmm…

I’ll have to do some brainstorming on this this summer. Thinking of the new year – of ways to do things better, of ways to reinvent and renew my classroom practices is one of my favorite parts of summer.
